Idle Landfill Takes Flight for
Residents and Wildlife
Across the nation, Waste Management has initiated cooperative ventures
with communities, local governments, developers and investors to restore
former landfills to active life as recreational and wildlife facilities.
Is it working? Just ask the residents of Burlington
County, New Jersey. Waste Management worked with the local community
to develop former landfill property into a model airplane field.
Here, enthusiasts of all ages gather to earn their wings.
Waste Management also supports the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife's effort to band migrating ducks. In 2001 alone, more ducks
were banded at this landfill-turned-wetlands site than at any other
single place in the state.
