Our people in action.
In 2004, Waste Management asked employees across
the company to commit to becoming Life Changers, individuals dedicated
to making positive changes in the lives of others.
The
Life Changer program is a tribute to Erich Jenkins, a former NFL
player and fitness professional who lost his life in a 2002 collision
with a WM transfer trailer truck. The license plate on Jenkins
car read LIFCHGR, reflecting the philosophy of life he embraced.
Since then, our company has adopted that theme as a powerful reminder
of the importance of safety.
When WM employees were invited to display their
commitment to safety by wearing a LIFCHGR wristband, the response
was astounding. More than 60,000 wristbands were purchased during
the promotion. Proceeds from the sale of the wristbands were donated
to the American Diabetes Association and Northern California Shriners
Hospital, designated by Erichs widow Heidi.
