With approximately 50,000 employees and more than
22,000 trucks on the road everyday, we fully recognize the responsibility
to hold ourselves to impeccable standards for the protection of
our employees, our communities and our customers. Our goal is to
be a company that acts safely and responsibly at all times and in
all places, with zero tolerance for unsafe actions, unsafe decisions,
unsafe conditions, unsafe equipment and unsafe attitudes.
We have reduced our Occupational Safety & Health
Administration (OSHA) injury rate by more than 70% and have reduced
the number of vehicle accidents by 35% over a four-year period.
These statistics are important to us because they tell us we are
making real progress toward reaching our safety goals.
Waste Management’s commitment to safety is
also reflected in its Wheelabrator operations, where 14 facilities
have been designated as OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Star sites,
the agency’s highest award for safety.
