Delmarva Businesswoman Honored by Industry Peers with Highest Achievement

Lisa Kardell, Waste Management, Named “Member of the Year” by National Solid Wastes Management Association

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, May 4, Lisa Kardell, director of government affairs for the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia region for Waste Management, Inc., will receive the National Solid Wastes Management Association’s (NSWMA) highest award – Member of the Year – for extraordinary service to NSWMA and the waste industry. 

NSWMA is the trade association representing private disposal companies throughout the United States.

“We are very pleased to recognize Lisa for her extraordinary service to the association over many years,” said Bruce J. Parker, President and CEO of NSWMA.  “Lisa is a tireless advocate for our industry and for the men and women who work within it.  She has been critically involved in major policy and advocacy

issues within in the region and nationally.”

Kardell has been with WM for 17 years, starting as a legislative assistant to the vice president of government affairs in Washington, D.C. and moving up to her current position.  She is active in

NSWMA’s Maryland chapter, and has served as chair and vice chair of the Virginia Waste Industries

Association, where she championed the industry at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the General Assembly.

“I am pleased to be recognized among my peers,” said Kardell. “Leadership and service to the solid waste industry are very important to me.”
