WM College Marketplace: Options for getting a degree
Tuition discounts, scholarships, grants, and customized programs available

HOUSTON  While she was helping her husband recover from a stroke, Mary Woodson spent a lot of time thinking about the future. Woodson, a learning systems specialist for Waste Management and grandmother of six, had never graduated from college. It was something she had always regretted.

All that changed when she discovered Ashford University’s online program, offered as part of Waste Management’s College Marketplace.

“When my husband was ill, I had time to think about going back to  school. I’ve done well professionally, but I never had that degree. Now that I do, it gives me such confidence and pride.” In May 2013, Woodson received her Bachelor of  Arts, summa cum laude, majoring in project management.

Part of WMU, College Marketplace offers:

“This benefit provides employees, and in some cases even their families, with tuition discounts, scholarships, grants, waived fees, and customized programs,” said David Whipple, WM’s manager of learning systems and evaluation.

“My coursework definitely helps me in my position at WM and the classes and homework were so convenient,” Woodson said. “This has been a great experience for me. It will open doors that weren’t opened before.”

Next May, Woodson is expected to receive her master’s degree in organizational management from Ashford University.
