Here’s an idea: WM Book Club

Recommended read: Leadership and Self-Deception

Marysville, Wash. – District Manager Carlton Paulmier is always thinking outside the box.
While working in Portland, he started a book club for fellow managers, during which they read
and discuss a number of leadership-oriented books. Their first book? Leadership and
Self-Deception by the Arbinger Institute, which teaches how any leader can overcome
self-deception to become a consistent catalyst of success (it’s a recommended read by
WM’s senior leadership).

Paulmier brought that idea to his districts and since then colleagues have been very
responsive to the idea. Two of those are Senior Dispatcher Kristy Beedle and Route
Manager Aaron Johnson, both of whom joined and now spend time bantering about what
makes a good leader. Consider starting a book club in your Area.
