Portland, Ore. – For Portland Hauling, 100 Days of Summer Safety includes a
hula-hoop contest that has drivers and operations staff moving fast and having
fun — all in the pursuit of safety.
District Manager Steve Wolfe surprised his team with the hula-hoop contest in
lieu of a weekly staff meeting. For the staff contest, Kori Eichorst (pictured), an
operations management trainee, emerged as the champion and was rewarded
with WM recognition points.
For drivers, the contest continues throughout the 100 Days campaign. Week
after week, a set of names is pulled from a hat and the driver who “hulas” the
longest is given a chance to answer a safety question. If he or she gets it right,
