BACKYARD COLLECTION
Carts can be collected from backyards for an additional fee, or no fee for qualifying disabled individuals.

BATTERY & CELLPHONE RECYCLING - FREE
Household batteries (AAA, AA, B, C, D & small button batteries), including rechargeable and cell phone batteries, can be recycled. Please follow these simple guidelines for curbside battery recycling:

  • Call Tri-CED to request a clear plastic zip-lock bag for battery and cell phone recycling.
  • Put batteries and cell phones in the bag. For safety reasons, please tape the ends of lithium batteries.
  • Place the sealed plastic bag on the ground next to your grey cart (not inside the cart) on your collection day.

SELF-HAUL COUPON TO HAUL TWO CUBIC YARDS - FREE
Waste Management provides coupons that waive the fee for disposal of up to two cubic yards of household garbage (no bulky or HHW items) self-hauled to the Davis Street Resource Recovery Complex. Coupons are limited to only one coupon per household per year. To request a coupon, call (510) 537-5500 or visit the Hayward Pay Station at 22770 Main Street, Hayward.

HOLIDAY TREE COLLECTION - FREE
Trees are collected curbside during the first two weeks of January, on your regular pickup day.  
Only clean trees, cut into 5 foot sections or smaller without stands, lights or decorations will be collected.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW)
HHW Drop-off Center is located at 2091 West Winton Avenue, Hayward and is available to all Alameda County residents.  No appointment is needed.  The facility is open 9am-2:30pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm.  For more information and operating schedule, call (800) 606-6606.

LOW INCOME ASSISTANCE
The City of Hayward offers a discount on garbage rates for low-income residents.  Please download and complete the application or contact the city at (510) 583-4610 for assistance.

MOTOR OIL & FILTER COLLECTION -FREE
Free containers for recycling used motor oil and filters are available to all Hayward residents. Please call Tri-CED at (510) 429-8030 or (510) 537-9963 for special oil containers and bags for your oil filters. You may place a maximum of two fully sealed, one-gallon plastic containers of uncontaminated (meaning not mixed) used motor oil at curbside on your designated pick-up day. Please always dispose of motor oil and anti-freeze properly.  Never pour used oil or anti-freeze on the ground or down a storm drain, they are harmful to the environment.
