Residential Services

Single-family Residential Service

All single-family residences and duplexes (two units) will be provided with the following enhanced services on your new scheduled collection day:

Recyclable Materials (Grey Cart)
Green waste (Green Cart)
Household trash (Black Cart)

Place all carts at curbside by 6:00 am on your scheduled collection day. Lids must be closed, and the lid opening must face towards the street. Carts should be placed side by side at least 2 feet apart and 2 feet away from parked cars or objects. As a courtesy to your neighbor, promptly remove carts after service.

Please do not put your trash container out before 5:00 p.m. the night before collection, and please remove your empty containers by 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection. These hours are set by county ordinance 20.72.110, which governs the placement of trash receptacles. For complaints concerning this matter you can contact the Department of Health Services, Bureau of Housing Inspection (626-430-5200).

Additional Carts

One additional recyclables cart or one additional green waste cart, or both, are available at no additional cost upon request. Additional trash carts are available for $5.00 per month per cart.

Discounts

Single-family residents who qualify for the senior discount must be 65 years of age or older, head of household and qualify for utility rate discounts. Please contact Customer Service for additional information and application.

Maximum Weight Limit - 96 Gallon Cart - 250lbs

To avoid exceeding the weight limitation of the cart, or causing possible damage to the cart or collection vehicle, do not place rocks, concrete, bricks or dirt inside carts. Any items placed within the cart must fall out easily when the cart is being serviced. Please do not overfill or tightly pack items into the cart.

If the cart exceeds the weight limitation, the driver will attempt service and will notify the resident of the problem by leaving a Non-Collection Notice attached to the cart. However, if we are unable to empty the cart, the cart will be tagged and marked as “overweight.” It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact Waste Management for service. If the problem is corrected by 3 p.m. on the same day, contact WM and we will return before 6 p.m. to empty the cart at no extra charge.

Resident Responsibility for Cart

Each resident is responsible for the proper care and security of the trash and recycling carts. Customers will be charged to replace carts that are damaged or destroyed other than through normal usage. Please contact Customer Service for cart replacements.

Prohibited Waste

Do NOT place the following materials in your carts:

  • Hazardous Waste (products labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, or irritant)
  • Paint
  • Oil
  • Automotive batteries
  • Tires
  • Hot ashes
  • Electronic waste (electronic equipment such as computers, TVs, cell phones, microwave ovens)
  • Infectious waste (including used needles)
  • Dead animals (weighing more than 10 lbs.)

If these materials are found in the cart, it will be tagged with a Non-Collection Notice and will not be serviced. It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact WM for service. If corrected by 3 p.m. on the same day, contact WM and we will return to service the cart before 6 p.m. at no extra charge.

Roll-out/backyard Service

On your regularly scheduled collection day, Waste Management will retrieve your carts from your backyard or other designated location for servicing and return them to their original location after servicing. Contact Customer Service for fee information for this service.

Scooter Service

Manual “scooter trucks” will service areas for any customer who requests this service or for residents of difficult to service areas, where automated collection vehicles cannot safely drive. Contact Customer Service for fee information for this service.
