  • “Caring for an old landfill is tough enough, but Waste Management did a lot more than that when it took over the Paterson Avenue Landfill in Hamilton Township. It also converted the former waste dump into a certified wildlife habitat.”
  • “The 22-acre Paterson Avenue site was closed in 1977 after 27 years as a municipal landfill. When Waste Management took it over, the company built a new cap that provided a more natural appearance. Passive gas vents were installed to manage the gases generated naturally during waste decomposition. The company also restored the wetlands on the site and relocated stream sediments and clay piled, ultimately creating a wildlife habitat.”
  • “The project is so successful it has been recognized for environmental stewardship by the national Wildlife Habitat Council – one of only 489 environmental wildlife habitat programs certified by the Council since 1990.”
