HOUSTON Following last week’s story on WM Energy Services — an area of the business that caters to oil and
natural gas exploration companies — Waste Management has announced the acquisition of two companies that
will allow for expansion in North Dakota:

  1. Summit Energy Services — a company that can manage every stage of an oil and gas construction project,
including pipeline development, erosion management and reclamation
  2. Liquid Logistics — a provider of frac storage pools for oil and gas well completions

With these two acquisitions, WM is in a good position to offer comprehensive services to oil and gas customers working
within the Bakken Shale formation, one of the largest oil fields in the United States.

According to Harry Lamberton, vice president of energy and environmental services for Waste Management, the addition
of 140 employees between the two acquisitions will add a variety of skills and services to WM’s portfolio, including:

“While we work with oil and gas customers around the country, these acquisitions give us access to an element we haven’t
previously served,” Lamberton said. “They also add expertise that we will use in the other North American regions where we
provide environmental services to oil and gas customers.”

Lamberton said that WM will eventually add offerings based on customer demands, such as rig maintenance, tank cleaning,
and drill cuttings solidification. WM acquires North Dakota energy services companies Bakken shale one of the largest US
oilfields “Our plan is to collaborate with our customers to become the most capable and comprehensive oilfield services
provider in the Bakken Shale,” he said.

The same private owner held both companies and all employees have been retained. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
