WM recognized as “Supplier of the Year”
by Rio Tinto

First in the environmental services industry to receive award

Chicoutimi, Quebec – “Knowing customers” and “optimizing operations” are two transformation goals that
have a big influence on district employees in Chicoutimi, located in the Province of Quebec. Evidence
of that came when Rio Tinto, a customer and world leader in aluminum production, recognized WM as
its “Supplier of the Year” for 2013.

Among hundreds of companies Rio Tinto does business with, WM was selected for its attention to safety
and quality of service, and is the first company in its industry to receive the honor.

“We understand the needs and the business goals of Rio Tinto,” said Jimmy Monier, sales director for WM.
“Both sales and operations have worked hand-in- hand to help this important customer reduce its costs, while
optimizing our own operations to become more efficient. It’s a win-win.”

WM has been a supplier at Rio Tinto for about twenty years. Winning this award is a great achievement when
considering that every week the company’s drivers pick-up, recycle and dispose the contents of hundreds of
containers scattered across dozens of locations. More important than this honor is the confidence shown by
Rio Tinto to WM with the recent contract renewal for an additional five years.
