Sharps Disposal By Mail Program

Every day, more than two billion needles, syringes and lancets are used outside healthcare settings by individuals who are treating conditions such as diabetes, hepatitis and allergies. Many of these "sharps" are improperly disposed of and end up in residential trash bins or recycling carts, posing a serious health risk to children, workers and communities. This is of concern both locally in the Citrus community and across California.

Waste Management offers a mail-back sharps disposal program to Citrus franchise residential customers. Used sharps are placed inside a specially designed sharps container. When full, the container is closed, bagged and sealed. Residents then return the postage pre-paid box to their mail carrier or nearest post office. The box is delivered to the processing center, where both the sharps container and its packaging are destroyed.

Residents can get 3 containers per calendar year (January – December). The first container is free and the second and third kit cost a $5.00 co-pay. A copy of your Waste Management invoice and identification are required. Kits are available at Walgreen's at 401 N. Azusa Ave in Covina, Walgreen's at 550 S. Grand Ave. in Glendora and Rite Aid at 153 E. Gladstone Street in Azusa. To learn more about the "SHARPS program please contact Customer service at (800) 266-7551.
