Container Locks - Help Prevent Contamination and Overages

WM has a variety of locks and styles available for commercial and business bins. Locks can help prevent unauthorized use of your bins, which can help keep your costs down. WM has 3 main lock varieties available for commercial bins. They are Bar lock, Chain lock, and Gravity lock. Contact us at 209-946-5721, for pricing and available container locks to meet your needs.

Contamination & Overages

Materials must fit inside a container with the lid shut for regular service.
Eliminating excess materials in containers:
• Decreases litter.
• Reduces stormwater pollution.
• Prevents animal hazards.
• Keeps Stockton clean and green.
If you regularly have extra waste, please contact WM at 209-946-5721 for a waste evaluation. We can help you “right-size” your services to avoid contamination and/or overage charges. WM may increase a container size or increase the frequency of service if the business receives three or more overage and/or contamination charges in any 12 month period.

Mandatory Recycling Laws

AB 1826 - Organics Recycling

California law requires businesses that generate 2 cubic yards or more of solid waste per week and multifamily properties of 5 or more units to recycle the organic portion of their waste. Organics include food scraps, food-soiled paper, landscape trimmings and nonhazardous wood waste. See
panel on reverse side for sorting guide.

AB 341 - Recycling

The commercial sector generates nearly three fourths of the solid waste in California. Much of the commercial sector waste disposed in landfills is recyclable. AB 341 requires all businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of solid waste per week to arrange for recycling services. See panel on reverse side for sorting guide.

SB 1383 Mandatory - Organics Recycling

When food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste break down in a landfill, they produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Properly sorting your food scraps and other compostable materials not only helps fight climate change, it’s also now the law. Effective January 1, 2022, all California businesses, multifamily complexes and residences are required to sort food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard debris from trash and recycling, and subscribe to organic waste collection service per State law SB 1383.
