Most electronics contain heavy metals that can be harmful to human health and the environment. With technology rapidly evolving in our increasingly digital age, outdated electronic devices are thrown away at an accelerating pace. Used electronics now account for 70 percent of the toxic waste found in landfills.

Legislation surrounding electronic waste is growing too. Waste Management’s Product Recovery Group (PRG) is committed to proper management of electronic waste. All nine PRG eCycling facilities hold these certifications:

  • Basel Action Network (BAN) eStewards®
  • R2: 2008
  • RIOS: 2006
  • ISO 9001:2008
  • ISO 14001: 2004

These certifications demonstrate our adherence to stringent environmental, quality, worker safety and socially responsible practices when recovering and processing e-waste containing hazardous components. All collected electronic products and wastes are processed in the United States.
