Ask About the Eco-Vista Landfill
The facility is permitted to accept household municipal solid wastes, industrial wastes, friable/non-friable asbestos, construction/demolition waste and DEQ approved special waste. Landscaping and yard waste are accepted in the compost area.
Eco-Vista is also permitted to accept liquid waste, which is bulked in our solidification pit prior to disposal in the Class 1 Landfill. Recyclables and tires are also collected at the landfill to send for further processing.
The facility is regulated by the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (ADEE, DEQ). The required permits include DEQ Solid Waste Operating Permits for Class 1 and Class 4 Landfills, DEQ Industrial and Municipal Landfill Stormwater Permits, DEQ Air Permit, Compost Permit.
DEQ inspects the facility each quarter to ensure compliance with the Solid Waste Operating Permit. Annual inspections are performed by DEQ, Air Division to inspect for compliance with the air permit. The Water Division of DEQ periodically inspects the facility stormwater controls.
We have invested in several projects to control and minimize odors, including:
- Continuous expansion of the gas collection system
- Installation of 400 trees at the facility boundary
- Atmos daily cover system at working face
- Upgraded and expanded odor control system
- Routine odor surveys internally and with third parties
Community members can report odor concerns by reaching out to [email protected]. If possible, please note the date, time, location of the odor and a description of the smell. Please also leave your name and call back number.
Stormwater runoff is collected throughout the facility through a series of open channels that guide the water to a permitted detention basin. Once water is collected in the detention basin it is sampled for containments prior to its release from the detention basin.
Landfill leachate is composed of any liquid that contacts or passes through the waste mass of a landfill. This could be a combination of stormwater that infiltrates the working face or moisture contained within the landfill unit itself. All landfill leachate is collected, monitored, and tested through a series of closed channel systems. After collection landfill leachate is disposed of at a permitted waste water treatment plant.
