Supporting our Communities

WM is committed to supporting the communities where we live and work by providing access to education, protecting and providing access to green space and filling gaps in communities to help drive positive impacts For Tomorrow®.

How Covel Gardens Landfill is driving change:

  • Contributing to the annual Basura Bash hosted by River Aid San Antonio to help clean up water ways in San Antonio.
  • Addressing unmet needs in our communities by providing access to food and clothing through donation drives at our San Antonio sites.
  • Providing a monetary donation to the San Antonio Food Bank following the floods that affected central Texas communities in July 2025.
  • Ongoing mowing and any facility repair of Covel Gardens Sports Park.

Covel Gardens Sports Park

WM constructed the Covel Sports Park located near the main entrance to the facility and opened its fields for community use in 1996. The park consists of two baseball diamonds, complete with regulation backstops and dugouts, and a combination football and soccer field with goal posts. In addition to a paved parking lot, the park has bleachers, a concession stand, and portable restrooms. Covel Sports Park encompasses 25 acres in total, and the construction cost was $250,000, all of which was paid for by WM.

Free Disposal Days

WM, in cooperation with the City of San Antonio, provides free disposal at Covel Gardens to San Antonio residents once every three months. The City of San Antonio designates specific dates each quarter for this event (dates vary every year). Always on a Saturday, residents are allowed to bring unlimited loads to Covel Gardens at no charge. Qualified residents must provide a copy of a current City Public Service (CPS) bill that indicates they receive trash collection service from the city. The back of the CPS statement shows the charge. On the designated dates, please call for operating hours. Anyone interested in these events should contact the City of San Antonio by dialing 3-1-1.
