WM invested $83.6 million to build the Covel Gardens Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Facility. The RNG facility converts collected landfill gas to lower-emission renewable natural gas (RNG), which can be allocated to power communities and natural gas vehicles.
WM has been a leader in the beneficial use of landfill gas for decades. The Covel Gardens RNG Facility is WM's second in Central Texas and one of its latest sustainability-related investments in its expansive and growing renewable energy network.
Today, WM owns or hosts more than 20 RNG facilities across North America that convert landfill gas into pipeline-quality natural gas. WM has plans to invest approximately $1.6 billion from 2022 to 2026 to build 20 new RNG facilities, one of which is the new Covel Gardens Renewable Natural Gas Facility.
