Kettleman City, CALIF. – April 18, 2012 – WM Kettleman Hills Facility and the Kettleman City Elementary School youth will collaborate to celebrate Earth Day by organizing a cleanup event in Kettleman City. The cleanup event is being sponsored by a $5,000 grant awarded to WM Kettleman Hills Facility through its corporate partnership with Keep America Beautiful. The Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest community improvement program; it takes place annually from March 1 through May 31 and attracts more than 3 million volunteers to clean up and improve over 17,000 communities across America.

“Being good stewards of the environment is one of WM’s core values and events such as the Great American Cleanup in honor of Earth Day exemplifies our company’s commitment to being a good neighbor to our communities and to the environment,” said Cecilio Barrera, community relations manager for WM Kettleman Hills Facility.

The cleanup event is scheduled for Friday, April 20. Kettleman Elementary students will clean along Kettleman City Highway 41, the elementary school, sports fields and surrounding areas with an emphasis on beautifying areas that have been heavily littered with debris.

Supervisor Richard Valle, who has been instrumental in bringing resources to benefit the Kettleman Hills community, will kick off the cleanup event.

“This cleanup event provides a unique opportunity to showcase the importance of volunteerism and giving back to the community,” said Richard Valle, Kings County Board of Supervisor. “I am proud to take part in the cleanup event because it symbolizes how the community can work together to bring about positive change.”
