Recycling Material Recovery Facility- (MRF)

WM has invested $29 million in automation and recycling technology to boost the processing capacity of the Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station’s (SRTS) Material Recovery Facility. These enhancements allow the facility to process up to 121,000 tons of material annually, and nearly 605 tons of recyclables daily.

The facility utilizes 16 optical sorters to improve quality control, ensuring that recyclables are sorted into the correct commodity streams. This process results in a higher-quality output that can be repurposed effectively, helping to conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The SRTS proudly serves the cities of Sacramento, West Sacramento, Woodland, and Winters, as well as Butte, Glenn, Plumas, Yolo, and Shasta counties.

Accepted Recycling Materials:

  •      Empty glass jars and bottles.
  •      Flattened cardboard and clean and dry paper.
  •      Empty aluminum and metal cans.
  •      Empty plastic bottles, jugs, jars, and containers.
  •      Plastic and paper to-go cups.

Recycle Right:

  •      Keep recyclables free. Place recyclables directly into your container without plastic bags.
  •      Keep food and liquids out of the recycling cart.
  •      Only place accepted items in your cart.
  •      Household Hazardous Waste required special handling. Visit our HHW facility for services and information.
