In Bucks County, WM has a long history of supporting the community through collaboration, engagement and strong, lasting partnerships. We work with schools, businesses and organizations and offer educational opportunities to support conservation, biodiversity and environmental protection.
Through our team member's efforts, opportunities for involvement and learning take place at our fully accessible “Laboratory for Learning Pollinator Garden”. By extending invitations to employees’ and partners’ families and friends, we have increased community engagement, heightened awareness of pollinator protection and reinforced the connection to biodiversity and conservation.
Our 30-year partnership with the international Wildlife Habitat Council has resulted in continual certification of our properties since 2001. In 2014, our WMPA Wildlife Team established the Intergenerational Pollinator Partnership Project with the goal of empowering participants to become champions for pollinators by making a commitment to increase the number of pollinator friendly gardens in the community. Our employees and community partners were thrilled to receive gold certification for the project in 2017 and be awarded the Landscape and Pollinator Projects of Year. The excitement continued in 2020 as the site maintained gold certification and received 3 Project of the Year Awards: Landscape, Pollinator, and Community Engagement and Education.
We are committed to volunteering in and supporting the community. WM provides support to fire companies, schools and community organizations. To increase safety in the community, we presented the Falls Township Police Department with a $47,000 grant to purchase and install a HAAS Alert System in the department patrol cars. When the cars’ emergency lights are activated, the System automatically warns approaching motorists of a potential roadside hazard through the motorists’ navigation systems. Studies have shown that this system increases the safety of our first responders and results in an 80% reduction in hard braking by motorists approaching a roadside emergency.
On Earth Day 2022, our team volunteered at ther Snipes Farm and Education Center, one of our valued community partners. For 9 years, we have supported the Falls Township Senior Center and their garden committee as they maintain an outdoor space for their members. Each year, we donate scholarships to 5 graduating seniors at Pennsbury High School. Pennsbury Manor welcomes our help with their events and projects. Financial support to qualifying schools and organizations in our area is provided through the Commonwealth’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program.
Successful partnerships do not live on good will alone. They take hard work and a high level of commitment. Through collaboration, we are sharing learning opportunities, resources, community outreach and partner engagement. Together, we are making a difference through education and heightened conservation awareness.
