The Southern Services Landfill is home to a thirty-acre wildlife habitat and freshwater wetland. The mitigated wetlands have been enhanced to become a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
Current projects include constructing bird boxes from reclaimed wood from the recycling operation onsite, monitoring birds attracted to the area in partnership with the Tennessee Ornithological Society, and an invasive species control program to minimize willows, Bradford pear trees and honeysuckle bushes in the wetlands.
Our team at Southern also works with local wildlife rehab centers to provide a place to release various species once rehabilitated.
