What counts as yard waste?
Summary
Find a list of commonly-accepted yard waste materials.
Accepted materials and service availability may vary by area. If you live in an HOA or other municipality with a WM contract, you may have additional guidelines on your local utilities website.
Acceptable items
Depending on your location, there may size limits for branches or tree trimmings. Additionally, yard/green waste should not be placed in plastic bags.
- Tree trimming/branches
- Leaves and house/garden plants
- Brush, grass clippings and lawn edging
Unacceptable items
Due to their weight and because they are not compostable, these items are not considered yard waste:
- Soil, sand or sod
- Tree trunks and stumps over 50 pounds
- Palm, yucca or ice plants
- Chemically/pressure-treated woods
- Rocks, stones, concrete or brick
