Waste Management: One of the “20 Most Responsible Companies” of 2010
Recently Forbes.com reported that Waste Management made it to the top of a field of over 4,000 businesses to rank as one of the “20 Most Responsible Companies” in the U.S.
In a study conducted by governance ratings agency GovernanceMetrics International (GMI), companies were ranked by scores in six broad categories:
- Board accountability
- Financial disclosure and internal controls
- Shareholder rights
- Remuneration
- Market for control
- Corporate behavior
Other companies rounding out the top 20 include: American Electric Power, Baxter International, Colgate-Palmolive, Dover, Exxon Mobil, Gap, Home Depot, Integrys Energy Group, Kimberly-Clark, LSI, Lockheed Martin, NextEra Energy, Occidental Petroleum, PepsiCo, Ryder System, Sprint Nextel, Staples, Sysco and Xerox.
