WM helps Nevada City take care of business with commercial waste services that set the standard for sustainability.

If the holiday falls on a weekday, services will be delayed by one day for the rest of that week. Your regular collection schedule will resume the following week. There will not be any interruption in service if the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
Review local commercial trash & recycling guidance before your next pickup or service request.

Container Setout Instructions
All containers should be placed in locations that allow easy access and convenient use by customers and are safely accessible to the hauler. Containers should be placed on a paved or hard and level surface whenever possible.
If container is located in an enclosure or behind locked gates, access must be provided to WM.
How to Prepare Your Materials
All trash should be bagged. Do not overfill your container – the lid must close tightly. Overflow and materials outside may be subject to additional charge or will not be collected.
What Belongs in Your Container
As of January 1, 2022, SB 1383 requires Californians to sort and separately collect food scraps, yard debris, and food-soiled paper from trash and recycling.
However, Nevada City businesses are currently exempt from SB 1383 compliance. While Nevada County and Grass Valley will introduce food waste collection in 2025, the City will not be affected.
Collection of organic materials, such as food scraps and food-soiled paper, will be available to commercial customers upon request.
Acceptable items include standard household trash like chip bags, plastic bags, and textiles (donate if lightly used), food scraps, and food-soiled paper.
Non-acceptable items include construction waste, auto parts, tires, household hazardous waste (paint, oil, household cleaners), and medical or electronic waste.
