Safety Today

Fire Prevention Month

HOUSTON – Did you know October is Fire Prevention Month? It’s a time to review your safety
practices in order to reduce (or eliminate) the risks of your home or workplace catching fire.

There are many resources online that can provide you and your families with the information
needed to create a safe environment . Here, though, are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on each level.
“Dual sensor” alarms are recommended. They should be replaced every years.
  2. The holidays are coming. Be mindful to set candles away from decorations and remember
that not all lights are made for both indoor and outdoor use.
  3. Have a plan. Appoint a fire warden and if your home or office hasn’t had a fire drill in a while,
make a goal to schedule one this month. Everyone should know what to do in case of emergency.
