Cart Set Out Instructions

Wheel your carts to the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day. Carts should be placed side-by-side at least two (2) feet apart and three (3) feet away from parked cars and other objects. As a courtesy to your neighbors, promptly remove carts after service and no later than 24 hours after service. Do not overload carts; lids must be able to close. Overage fees may apply if your cart overflows. Sort properly (see inside). Garbage mixed in Recycling and Organic carts may be subject to contamination charges. Place the following items at the curb: Flattened cardboard (up to four (4) feet by four (4) feet), extra bagged recyclables (clear bags only), used motor oil (up to two (2) gallons), and oil filters (up to two (2)). Branches and prunings no larger than three (3) feet and no wider than two (2) inches in diameter may be tied in bundles and placed beside the Organics Cart for collection. Individual bundles may not weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.

Prohibited Items

These items do not belong in any of your carts. Hazardous Waste (Products labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable or irritant), Medical Waste (Needles, Prescription Medication), Paint, Oil and/or Oil Filters, Batteries (Household and Automotive), CFL and Fluorescent Bulbs and Tubes, Tires, Hot Ashes, Electronic Waste (Computers, Televisions, Cell Phones, Kitchen Appliances), Ink Cartridges, Dead Animals

ORGANICS SERVICE

West Sacramento residents can recycle their yard and food waste in one cart. Please help divert compostable items from the landfill and place food scraps in your green waste cart (brown lid).

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW) - AT YOUR DOOR

This service will resume on June 8th, you may call now and make appointments. 

Waste Management’s “At Your Door Special Collection” provides appointment-based collection of household hazardous waste (HHW). HHW is any product labeled toxic, poisonous, corrosive, flammable, combustible or irritant. HHW items include paint, batteries, oil, and pesticides. Residents are eligible for two (2) appointments per year. Visit www.wmatyourdoor.com or call (800) 449-7587 to schedule an appointment. MEDICINE DISPOSAL

Residents may dispose of non-controlled, over-the-counter and prescription medicine at drop-box locations throughout the City.

FREE BULKY WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE

Residents are eligible for two (2) bulky waste collection appointments per year (July - June). Eligible items include furniture, mattresses/box springs, electronics, tires (limit 4), small and large appliances, rugs, etc. Limits apply. CURBSIDE USED OIL AND OIL FILTERS COLLECTION

Waste Management will provide used oil containers and filter bags. Residents may recycle up to two (2) gallons of used oil each month using this service. Used oil must be poured into provided used oil containers. Call (866) 844-1508 to request a container and filter bag.

FREE BAGGED LEAF WASTE

During the fall leaf season (November 1st – January 31st), bagged leaves may be placed beside the Organics Cart for collection. Individual bags may not weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.

BUNDLED GREEN WASTE (ORGANICS)

Branches and prunings no larger than three (3) feet long and no wider than two (2) inches in diameter may be tied in bundles and placed beside the Organics Cart for collection. Individual bundles may not weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.

BACKYARD COLLECTION

Carts may be collected from backyards/sideyards for an additional fee. Qualifying senior or disabled residents can receive this service for no additional fee. Call (866) 844-1508 for details.
