Notice of Permit Application

Notice is hereby given that Stericycle Inc. of 2355 Waukegan Road, Bannockburn, IL 60015 has submitted to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection an application under section 22a-208a of the Connecticut General Statues for a Permit to conduct a regulated activity in the construction, alteration, or operation of solid waste facilities.

Specifically, the applicant proposes to renew its Permit to Construct and Operate a 42 tons per day biomedical waste and 2 ton per day non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste transfer facility. The proposed activity will take place at 85 Fieldstone Ct., Cheshire CT. 06410. Absent adequate operational control measures, the proposed activity may potentially affect wetlands to the south of the facility, and groundwater. The operational control measures in place at the facility to adequately address this potential affect are: (i) the loading and unloading of waste received and shipped off-site only through the facility’s docks; and (ii) containment of waste at all times during the transfer process within sealed containers, which are either inside trucks and/or trailers or located within the enclosed building at all times.

Interested persons may obtain copies of the application from Mr. Marvin Bowers, 5800 Chemical Road, Baltimore, MD 21226, telephone number (844) 895-7021.

The application is available for inspection below and at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Bureau of Materials Management and Compliance Assurance, Waste Engineering and Enforcement Division, 79 Elm Street, Hartford CT. 06106-5127, telephone 855-934-0171 from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.
