For regular service and holidays
If a holiday falls on a weekday, collections for the rest of the week will be pushed back a day. For a Thursday holiday, service would be on Friday, and Friday service would be Saturday. For holidays on Saturday or Sunday, there are no delays.
If the holiday falls on a weekday, services will be delayed by one day for the rest of that week. Your regular collection schedule will resume the following week. There will not be any interruption in service if the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
Starting January 2025, Nevada County will launch food waste collection as part of Senate Bill 1383's requirements. Enacted in 2022, SB 1383 mandates that all California residents and businesses separate and recycle food waste, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings.
The goal is to divert these materials from landfills, reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants that drive climate change.
Curbside Collection
In December, WM commercial customers will receive a 64-gallon green waste cart to sort food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste. Customers can call customer service at (530) 274-3090 to request more carts or adjust their service levels.
Self-Hauling
Businesses that choose not to subscribe to curbside food waste collection are still required to self-haul organic waste to a permitted solid waste facility that processes or recovers source-separated organic materials.
Waivers
Your business may be eligible for a waiver if it does not generate organic waste or lacks physical space for an additional waste collection bin. For more information, visit the Commercial Food Waste Collection page.
