Yes, as a part of the formal acquisition and transfer process, the contract requires that the city staff provide analysis to the city council for review and approval for assigning the agreement to WM. The meeting and vote took place in May 2026.

Yes. The rates are not immediately changing and will only change in the future in accordance with the existing contract. Rates and services will remain exactly the same.

No. The service operation will not be immediately impacted. Services and service days will remain as is in the immediate future to avoid service disruption or potential delays with this transfer. Customers will continue to use the same containers and will be serviced by the same trucks and drivers in the same manner as they were prior to the transfer.

The city has elected to operate with an exclusive franchise agreement to avoid congesting public roadways and neighborhood streets with multiple collection trucks. In doing so, the city ensures the residents and businesses will receive high quality service in the safest manner. That exclusivity has not been transferred over to WM through an acquisition, allowing WM to be the sole provide of services in the city.

WRT and WM came to an agreement for WM to acquire WRT and all of its assets, including the exclusive franchise agreement in the city. Due to this acquisition, and through approval of the city council, WM will now be provide the same services WRT previously did in the city.

Yes. All available services and benefits offered to the customers will remain exactly as is. No immediate changes to the agreement nor the services offer to the customers are occurring.
